The newly released music video of Perry’s single “Lifetimes” is under fire because it was filmed in the Natural Park of Ses Salines of the Balearic Islands—a location that holds “great ecological value.”

As directly translated from Catalan to English, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and National Environment of Ibiza stated that the parties responsible for filming the video had not requested authorization from the Ministry to commence recording.

As a result, preliminary investigative actions have ensued to look into the matter further. The intention behind the Balearic Government’s Department of the Environment’s investigation is to determine whether the filming of Perry’s music video has had an impact on the environment of the protected dunes of the islet of s’Espalmador.

The dunes form part of Ibiza and Formentera’s Ses Salines Natural Park. The location, approximately 1.8 miles (2.9 kilometers) long and 800 meters wide, was certainly ideal for the easy-breezy island vibe of the pop track, with Perry looking beach chic in her striking bikinis.

Footage shows snapshots of a busy nightclub, urban areas, and of course, natural spots like s’Espalmador’s dunes, which, reportedly, were marked off as prohibited by ropes and poles placed on the outskirts of the interior.

While the investigation is underway, reports say that the likelihood of Perry and her team being charged with a crime for environmental infringement is slim to none because of a specific clause in Article 65 of the National Resources Management Plan (PORN).

“The filming of photographic reports, cinematographic, videographic or of any other kind that involve the taking of images in any medium and format with an advertising or commercial exhibition purpose, requires the express authorization of the competent ministry for the environment,” reads the beginning of the clause.
It then goes on to conclude, “[Without] prejudice to other authorizations that can be granted by the corresponding authorities and bodies, including those pertaining to property rights.”
However, it is still a point of contention because, in addition to the production company not requesting authorization, reports state that they didn’t even apply for it.
Before the music video for “Lifetimes” came out, the “Last Friday Night” singer shared a few details about the track and how it came to life.

Speaking about her new album, “143,” overall, which outlets predict will be the next “soundtrack of Ibiza’s summer closing parties,” Perry divulged, “I always wanted to make a dance pop record. One third is more dance than I have ever done before. One third is quintessential pop and then one third is rhythmic.”
After sharing information about the vibe of the album, which is scheduled for release on September 20, Perry spoke about “Lifetimes.” The dance track was inspired by her beloved daughter, Daisy Bloom.
Perry shared how quite often, people tend to look for their “soulmate in a partner,” but she said for her, this person “came in the form of Daisy.”
“I wrote Lifetimes about her. Every night, before we go to sleep, I say, ‘I love you,’ and then I ask, ‘Will you find me in every lifetime?’ and she says, ‘Yes,'” disclosed the “Firework” musician.
Only time will tell what discoveries will be uncovered during the investigation of the “Lifetimes” music video, but for now, we wish Katy Perry great success with her upcoming album, which many look forward to hearing.
